The Type R philosophy is not about building the most powerful, or fastest car for straight line performance. It's about creating a car that provides a well-engineered, but exciting driving experience better than available elsewhere! To offer this, every Type R needs to have certain key characteristics: Racing pedigree, pure lightweight focus on handling with no unnecessary weight or equipment. Going fast is part of the Type R experience, but not everything. Equipped with double wishbone suspension, the Type R has very strong levels of handling in addition to performance in gear change quality, braking, steering and handling. Also of course, there's the engine - Much like a racing unit even in standard tune. 185 bhp from a 1.6 litre engine is one of the highest specific power outputs of any n/a production car ever made!
Because of the above attiributes, styling and driving dynamics, the EK9 Type R is considered by many Honda enthusiasts as the ultimate Civic. Make no mistake - this is a far superior driver's car than the UK built EP3 Civic Type R. The Japanese have never really got to grips with the EP3, but have done extensive work in producing tuning parts to make this serious pocket rocket even more balistic... This is the wildest FWD N/A car ever made and was only officially sold in Japan from 1997-2000. No other countries received this top machine.
Powered by an exclusively-developed 1.6-liter DOHC VTEC B16B engine that makes 185 bhp at 8,200 rpm, this little pocket rocket accelerates from 0-60 in just 5.7 seconds (Honda original figures)! The lightweight B16B engine also features a valve system allowing higher engine speeds than the B18 Type R engine (In the DC2 Type R Integra models), reduced engine friction, improved breathing, and increased compression ratio. Main features of handling include excellent body rigidity, reduced weight, double wishbone sports suspension, torque-sensitive helical LSD, sports-tuned ABS and more. The special colour of Championship White celebrates Honda’s first victory in F1.
This example is one of the last EK9's made! A 2000 (June) Civic Type R 1,600cc DOHC V-Tec. EK9. Honda Racing White. 5 Speed Manual. Equipment includes: ABS, Dual SRS Airbags with Momo Steering Wheel, Carbon finish interior trim and dash surround, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Mirrors with retract mode, Fitted Mats, Privacy Glass on the rear, Rear Spoiler, Original alloy wheels, double wishbone suspension, etc. Seats are original Recaro reclinable items are in near new condition.
The car is of auction grade 4 (Auction sheet available). Condition is outstanding. Interior has no faults to report aside from wear to the fitted mat on driver's side, as a result of there being no rubber mat beneath the driver's feel. We are able to source and supply fitted mats for this car inexpensively. Please note no hifi is fitted to this example, although the fitting plates have been left in situ, to make it easy to fit a hifi in UK. We are also able to supply a 1 din blanking box if required. Note that there is no titanium gearknob fitted currently, this item has been removed by the auction the car was bought from to safeguard from pilferage. It will come with this car when completed.This has been a non smoker's car since new. Exterior is very well kept, with no faults at all to report, aside from some light pin dents as follows: 2 on driver's door, one on passenger door, one on the rear hatch. These will be professionally removed through the services of a dent removal specialst in UK. Bonnet has a few small stone chips only. These will also be professionally touched in during our preparation work to complete in UK. This is an immaculate car! Engine bay is similarly in excellent condition. An oil change has been recently carried out. Oil is new and golden. There is also indication that the gearbox oil was changed at 90,000km approx. Note that suspension shock absorbers have been exchanged from standard to uprated items shown. Uprated ignition leads and a Splitfire earthing kit are also fitted in the engine bay. We are especially pleased with the quality of this Civic Type R - It's as perfect condition as we have come across, with genuine well looked after mileage.
Test driving this EK9 once properly warmed up, the engine pulled very eagerly especially from 5,800 rpm onwards, when the V-Tec comes on! Clutch is good, with plenty of wear remaining. The brakes work well - with no drama from warped discs or any signs of abuse in the past. Essentially this looks as drives like a new car!
With fuel prices now set high and expected to stay that way - there's never been a wiser time to own a Type R. Giving economy when needed, with power in abundance when the mood takes you, with unrivalled handling and grip, plus exclusivity, this CTR makes an excellent commuting car, or even an excellent base with which to start modifying - to make a top CTR example.
