The STi Version 5 Wagon is one of the most interesting and capable of the classic model 5 door Imprezas. A model only built for the Japanese domestic market. It was on the previous model STi Version 3 that Subaru chose to introduce 4 piston signature front brake calipers with 2 piston rear callipers to match. The engines are Sti Blue-printed units with stronger internals incl. better camshafts, valve springs and larger turbo combined with an 8,000 rpm rev limit (Normal WRX's are 7,000) packing 280+ bhp as standard. Further mechanical improvements from Subaru Technica International include a carbon fibre front strut brace, uprated intercooler full Sti Exhaust. The STi 5 is also distinguishable by it's updated vented bonnet, light green tint on windows,updated rear spoiler with integrated central brake light and the red and white rear lights in addition to crystal type headlights and a fresher design of front bumper splitter. The Sti 5 interior was also of a brighter design than previous versions, with "STi" embossed front seats white dials with a digital odometer. The air conditioning controls were also updated and a driver's SRS airbag included with the Momo leather steering wheel.
For the sports driver who wants reliable high capacity load carrying capability without the weight penalty,outstanding 4WD road holding, STi performance and reliability - this is the wagon to own. Better dynamically than the later heavier and more watered down bugeye STI wagons, performance for money - you'll be hard pressed to find better. Classic Impreza Sti performance - with all the practicality of a normal 5 door wagon. These make other manufacturer's modern sports estate offerings look positively boring performance is bland by comparison!
Cosmetic other modifications: This car's remained standard mechanically since new (Good because it helps preserve the car if it always ran low power and had speed restriction to 112 mph). Dealer options include: STi sports pedal covers, passenger airbag, side wind deflectors original option bungee net. The previous owner also left a complete roof rack kit with the car (Small canvas bag contains the attachments for roof rails). Ideal if you intend to use the car for winter sports, DIY, small business, etc. where the boot is too small on it's inconvenient to fold the rear seats down. Condition: Our full array of pictures will speak for themselves to show the outstanding condition of this Impreza STi 5 Wagon. It's body is completely rust free there's no underside corrosion at all, nor in the engine bay. We noted on the passenger side front door (n/s/f) there's about 4 pin dents and also one on the front nearside wing and two light pin dents on the rear nearside door. Also, on the rear quarter panel (nearside) there are some light touched in scratch marks. On the roof, the plastic antenna trim seems to have been glued into place (Antenna is inside the boot, under the carpet). Inside, there's a grommet on the centre console covering a round hole where something has previously been fitted.None of the above points require attention, they're simply described to provide a full report of condition. If we didn't point them out here - most people wouldn't notice them on inspection. We simply prefer to give a full report.Note that the timing belt and tensioner set were changed at 92,204km (57,305 miles) on 25th November 2006. This car's also been regularly serviced oil shows signs of recently being changed.
It's very rare to find an example anywhere near this good nowadays. Interior is in perfect condition aside from a very small nick to the o/s/r door trim (very minor - see picture). This Impreza Sti Version 5 Sports Wagon has been a non smoker's car since new!
Test Drive: Mechanically it's also in good condition. Strong power with good response, a nice quiet engine with no noisy valve gear or signs of a hard pushed engine. . We test drove this car after warming up - which revealed a very tight feeling car. There are no faults to report at all.
Since April 2004, a model report / extra fee has been required when SVA / iVA testing any car of newer manufacture than 10 years of age at first registration in UK. Although there are model reports for Sti 7 8 wagon models models, there are none available for the classic STi Impreza models. This mean that only 10 (or greater) year old classic Imprezas can currently be imported to the UK. As most pre 2000 year Imprezas in Japan are too tired nowadays, or just too expensive if in top condition and low mileage - we usually don't have many of these available. Just a handful each year. We simply won't buy a car we wouldn't buy for ourselves were we looking for the same. This has been our guarantee of quality since 1998.
Compare our's to the undersides of examples in the UK that were imported to the UK before 2004 and have been through at least 8 winters all the salt, grit and mud on UK roads...Our hand picked fresh import rust free well looked after cars are much, much better, in comparison, rust free in other words, not caked in it!
