DESCRIPTION

The Fast Furious trilogy has a lot to answer for. Targetted at petrol heads worldwide, it has inspired literaly 100's of 1000's of people in tuning their Japanese sports cars and helped create a wave of tuner businesses worldwide! The Veilside RX-8 VSD1 GT kit is one of the most eyecatching RX-8 designs available. This particular car is world famous as a result of being the main female star's car in Fast Furious 3 Tokyo Drift, this car is probably the world's best known modified RX-8 currently available for sale. This Veilside bodykit was styled by Veilside designer boss - Hironao Yokomaku. Newera's involvement with Veilside began when the Fortune RX-7 was being styled, a car we fell in love with ever since first laying eyes on the clay model Yokomaku San was creating in his workshop...! After filming an exclusive interview, Newera went on to send the very first Fortune RX-7 show car to the Paris Tuning Show - then back to Japan. Subsequently through development of business with Veilside, Newera Imports became involved in the supply of Japanese cars for the 3rd movie, Tokyo Drift, liaising directly between Universal Studios, Hollywood and Japan's premier tuners to create special cars to be featured in the film. The car offered here is the only surviving genuine RX-8 that was built by Veilside sent to Hollywood for filming during 2005-2006. As our Fast, East Extreme DVD on www.neweramedia.com shows, Veilside's Yokomaku San is no stranger to tuning cars for performance, having been one of the Japanese pioneers of 8 second quarter mile GT-R's and Supras in the 1990's.
This is the RX-8 owned by the leading female star playing Neila (Nathalie Kelly), one of the hottest new actresses on the Hollywood scene. The RX-8 was shot at the beginning in the car park where the first drift scenes took place, then later drifted on mountain roads on a touge run. Full documentation to prove it's passage to and from the USA for filming is held on file - for one lucky owner to keep, as proof his investment is 100% genuine. This Veilside D1GT RX-8 design isn't as wild as the two other Veilside cars that appeared in Tokyo Drift (Veilside 350Z Fortune RX-7) but remains a very cool design that compliments the trio of cars that appeared in the movie. It's without a doubt the 3rd best looking Japanese car in the film, hadly surprising - as it was also styled by Hironao Yokomaku. This kit was actually designed by Veilside for D1 professional competition use, hence the name. It comprises: Front bumper with large duct design (for Turbo intercooling), side skirts, rear bumper with integrated diffuser and discreet mesh for displaying uprated exhaust system, vented rotary design hood and a fully adjustable carbon GT Wing (Type 3). Having just completed a complete bodywork restoration to money no object levels of perfection, the body work and accompanying artwork is absolutely flawless. In quest for perfection, Newera commissioned an entire specialist respray with many layers followed by deep coats of laquer to create a stunning level of finish before laying complete new high-quality decals of original one-off Veilside design. Every detail was restored right down to the veilside plaques of authenticity and sunstrip. The view of the front of the car is unarguably of agressive mood. If you ever saw this car in your rear view mirror you'd want to pull in just to see it go by... Veilside front bumper's centre is filled entirely by a massive Greddy intercooler, which feeds cooled air from the Trust T618Z turbo to the intake. The original wide arches accentuated by deep skirts and stunning 19" 2 piece wheels certainly aren't shy offer a hint of grin inducing levels of performance lurking under the hood. Veilside's carbon rear GT wing bumper give more hints of the performance available with the lower diffuser housing a large bore twin exit Tanabe full stainless exhaust system. The total value of Veilside genuine bodykit is £3,250. The paintjob sticker set a further £3,500. Wheels a further £1,800 with tyres This is a £8.5 K exterior remake before we even go into the interior or tuning work done on the car (Which cost in excess of this figure). The wheels chosen by the Fast Furious Team's designers are Avus Racing AF8C of 19" size. These use Toyo Proxes T1R tyres (Official tyres as used in the film) of size: 275/30ZR19 245/35ZR19,
This car was based on a Type S Japanese model which has 245 bhp a 6 speed transmission as standard and comes with a full specification of creature comforts and unique RX-8 designs. Open the front doors and you'll find where the B pilar is supposed to be - are additional door handles. These open up the rear suicide doors, to provide clever entry space for 2 adults in the rear. The centre console also extends all the way to the rear and the front seats have a rotor shaped design on the headrests. As the interior wasn't featured significantly on this car, no changes were made except the addition of a Momo leather bound sports steering wheel and shift knob. There are other interesting designs too. When you operate the remote central locking on come the courtesy lights located on the underside of each mirror. Needless to say, every possible option is included for comfort, front sports seats to climate control air conditioning and 6 CD changer audio system. Traction and stability control are also fitted - but able to be completely disabled for fun when steering this car's rear end on the throttle. As this car was used for drifting, it was modified to endow it with ample performance to impress in front of the cameras. A full Greddy 04+ RX-8 turbo kit based on Greddy's T618Z turbo. This unit offers quick spool, and since the Greddy RX8 turbo kit runs 5.6psi of boost, it helps with low-end power whilst remaining tractable reliable. The Greddy conversion is complete and very well executed. Coll air is filtered by a Trust Airinx high flow filter then fed to the T618Z internally wastegated turbo via polished stainless steel TIG welded piping and high pressure silicone hose. The turbo is mated to bespoke cast iron exhaust manifolds compress the air then feed it via Greddy's front mount intercooler to the intake. At the intake manifold fuel is fed to the Renesis rotary combustion chambers. The Greddy system includes an E-manage custom mapped plugs in management system. There's an oil return ports from the turbo to the sump. A 304 grade stainless steel Tanabe Super Medalion Hyper Spec Catback Exhaust Dual Muffler with 70mm bore 100mm tips gives this RX-7 a sporty sound from the back, whilst at the front wastegate chatter is heard from the Airinx kit as the throttle is released for gearchanges.. To put the power down squarely for drifting, there's a Cusco clutch rated to 350 bhp as well as a Cusco 2 way differential. Suspension is uprated with slightly firmer than standard TEIN progressive springs. The turbo kit is rated to produce up to 305 bhp at 0.56 bar. The car's also been fully serviced and checked over by Knight Sports, Tokyo's premier rotary tuning and race specialist.
Note: We also supply additional cosmetic engine parts for RX-8's at low prices! Being currently stored in Tokyo Japan at time of sale this car can be modified further before shipping to customer's choice with any combination of parts, from mild to wild, before being shipped to it's new destination country. We would suggest a strut brace for the front and some alloy / carbon parts to further improve the engine's appeal. See www.neweraparts.com for ideas for tuning work / parts available, or Contact Us for further info.
During our brief drives of this car in Tokyo together with the 350Z (Back to storage after photoshoots for magazines) we found this car to draw crowds. People in other cars alongside would instantly recognise it and wind down their windows to make excited comments and ask about the car, pedestrians stop in their tracks to gawp, and mobile phones are hurriedly pulled out everywhere it goes - to get a shot of the cars before they were gone. Despite it's wild looks, it's easy to drive normally. The uprated clutch feels much like a standard one would, suspension is comfortable and it behaves impeccably in traffic. A sign of well executed mapping by Greddy. From around 2,500 rpm the turbo comes to life and gives grin inducing performance. Release the throttle to change gear and you can hear the wastegate chattering, to remind you this is no ordinarily aspirated RX-8. If provoked it will of course drift just like in the film, but what we noticed most was how nice it was to drive. This car could easily be used on a regular basis. Despite having considerably more power than standard, it's completely user friendly. Make no mistake! This is a stunning one off show car that can be used on the road, or if you're business savy you could charge for it's rental display at shows and exhibitions, advertisements, etc. to help recoup your investment or promote your business. There's no doubt in years to come this car will be worth considerably more than the sale price it's offered at.
