DESCRIPTION


The Subaru Technica International Version 5 Type R is THE most interesting and sought after of the classic shape Imprezas that can finally once again be imported to the UK. This is the connoisseur`s Impreza - finely honed for maximum performance and capability, this is the most impressive of the breed. STi Version 5 Type denotes this is a lightweight competition spec. 2 door model. This model was only made for the Japanese market, with the lesser P1 models sold in Uk during previous years. Special high performance features abound. This is one of the finest examples of the breed we've come across in years.Specification: Water jets are fitted above the intercooler these can be operated automatically or at the touch of a button. The steering rack is quick geared for less turns from lock to lock, as engineered by Subaru Technica International. 4 Piston signature front brake calipers give excellent braking performance, as required. Further improvements from Subaru includes Sti carbon fibre front strut brace an uprated intercooler - with a seperate water tank to feed water spray onto the intercooler, either in Auto or manual mode. The engine is a red top unit - factory blueprinted endowed with stronger internals with a higher 8,000 rpm rev limit. Packing a 280+ bhp punch as standard, this example is making in the region of 320 bhp. This can also be uprated easily to 360 bhp + with mild modification. To get 360+ bhp, all it needs is an ECU remap (Ecutek) a boost controller, plus UK rolling road mapping to suit. We also strongly recommend fitting a carbon fibre STi 8 styled sized intercooler scoop - as this will force twice the volume of air through the intercooler (Check out the many performance Subaru parts available at discount through www.neweraparts.com). The gearbox is a close ratio unit with an adjustable centre differential, geared for maximum speed of 155 mph at the red line. The electronically adjustable centre differential allows any range between a fully locked (For very slippery conditions such as snow) all the way to 70% rear and 30% front bias allowing understeer to be dialed out and for power oversteer to be supplied as required. The STi 5 Type R is also distinguishable by it's updated vented bonnet, facelift front bumper, clear front headlights, light green tint on windows, large rear spoiler with updated and the red and white rear lights. The Sti 5 interior is also of a brighter design than previous versions, with embossed front seats, brushed dark alloy facia around the dials and a Momo SRS steering wheel. Note that creature comforts are included such as (Facelift facia) climate control A/C, electric colour coded mirrors with electric retract mode, central locking, electric windows, power steering, optional fitted floor mats, privacy glass in the rear, rear wiper, original option wind deflectors and more!Enhanced Performance, Handling Safety: A Zero sports radiator cooling panel combined with an uprated Koyo Sports radiator and Samco silicone hoses keep a check on coolant temperatures. A Zero sports intake kit is also fitted. An HKS Silent Power Stailness 304 exhaust (cat back) system is fitted - to give a characteristic yet politically correct enhanced sound. Clutch has recently been uprated with an Exedy single plate uprated unit. This has progressive feel - much like standard, but will withstand more power sports use. Unmarked original wheels are shod with near new Yokohama DNA S Drive sports tyres. Suspension has been uprated with near new HKS Hypermax III coilovers, combined with top camber adjustable mounts at the front, to help dial out the last bit of understeer. Note there are Zero Sports anti roll bars fitted to front rear also. With the RA Sti already being very strong in the handling department, with these additional modifications combined you can expect even better grip and controllability on the limit with this setup - with absolutely no understeer at all! Note the front discs are also upgraded with slotted items and brake pads are Endless CC-R high performance items. Inside there's a neatly mounted Greddy A pilar pod with 60mm diameter Greddy gauges to show oil pressure and turbo boost at a glance. Note this car's had a major service less than 200 miles ago (at 54,779 miles exactly) inclusive of a new timing belt, oil changes, full mechanical check, new brake pads, etc. Total cost of recently uprated parts fitting is in the region of £5,500 total.
Test drive: Mechanically and cosmetically, this Type R Sti 5 is in outstanding condition. Test driving this example revealed no faults at all. It drives perfectly. Boost climbs quickly to peak and holds steady. No noisy hydraulic valve buckets is indicative this car`s oil has been regularly changed. Indeed, it`s still golden coloured from it's recent change. Brake discs are visually in very unworn condition. Over a bumpy road there were no rattles or squeaks, even with the HKS coilovers fitted. Ride is comfortable and progressive yet has virtually no body roll at all. Clutch feels like new too. Clearly this feels like a car that hasn't been used hard and has been well maintained. Note that tyres are each about 1/3rd worn only. Interior: This has been a non smoker's car and clearly the previous owner in Japan too fastidious care of it. There are no faults at all to report. Original fitted mats are also fitted. Exterior: Note the total absence of any rust at all beneath, nor any oil leaks, etc. Also wheels are in excellent original condition with no dents, scratches, etc. Auction grade of this example is 4 (Sheet is available upon request). To check the bodywork carefully, we washed this car and noted: There are 2 small pin dents on the passenger door and also one on the driver's rear quarter panel. Each of these faults will be repaired professionally and included in the price if the full en. We also noticed a very small stone chip on the bonnet. This is too small to warrant repair, but mentioned for the purposes of giing a full accurate account. Since April 2004, a model report has been required when SVA testing any car newer than 10 years old on application for first UK registration. Although there are model reports for Sti 7 8 models, there are none available for the classic STi Imprezas. This mean that until recently, pre-1997 Imprezas could not be imported to the UK. The STi 5 Type R was only made from the end of 1998, so this is the first we are importing in over 4 years! Note that current rules are due to change shortly, so newly imported STi 5 Type R's will be an absolute rarity. Most likely when this one's sold we will be unable to find a replacement in time for the doors to be closed firmly by VOSA against further entry of this model!
This example is well above the quality you'll typically find in a UK car, or one imported previously, as those will be suffering from rusty undersides, seized bolts, etc. as well as usual neglect as found in UK.
