This is a very rare Revision 4 model GT-S turbo. If you're well into these you'll know this sort of car almost never comes up for sale, especially in condition as outstanding as this example!
The MR2 turbo was made from 1989 onwards for the Japanese market only, whilst the rest of the world had to make do with normally aspirated versions only!
In 1994 Toyota introduced the Revision 3 turbo model in Japan. Fitted with a more powerful version of their 3S GT-E turbo engine giving 245 bhp as standard, other revisions also brought uprated suspension for greater grip and safety at high speeds, uprated interior trim, as well as newer larger sized wheels, plus of course new fresh colours. With these changes the MR2 became a better car - which is still in strong demand by enthusiasts both in Japan and UK, etc. The Revision 4 model was introduced at the very end of 1996. In addition to the Revision 3 modifications, it received a new uprated ABS system as standard, Dual SRS Airbags, clear front indicators and side repeaters fitted on the side of each front wing. Glass was also changed to a more modern green tinted type (Previous models had glass in brown-grey colour). More new colours were introduced too.
To find a Revision 4 in this condition nowadays is usually close to impossible. Most are tired, neglected and in need of considerable work to make perfect. This example's in mint condition throughout.
Standard specification includes: Dual SRS airbags, ABS, Climate Control A/C, PAS, P/W, Light green tint on the windows, remote controlled door mirrors, original floor mats. The spare and original tool kit are complete and unused. Note: This is a one owner non smoker's car from new.
Mild Modifications: This MR2 has received some mild upgrades: There's a turbo timer and also a Greddy B Pilar pod with an Apexi boost gauge and SARD vacuum gauge too. Wheels are 17" Wedsports RS-5, stagered in size and wearing brand new Nexen N3000 sports tyres of size 215/40-ZR17 (Front) and 235/40-ZR17 (Rear). The original option Bilstein suspension has been lowered through the use of a progressive spring kit. This was not very comfortable, in our opinion - so we'll have replaced these with a brand new set of RSR Ti 2000 sport springs which lower the car 25mm from standard. It now has a much more sensible stance with good ride comfort excellent handling (Please note: Pictures online show the car on it's previous springs). Please note - if desired, we are able to supply engine tuning parts, the latest wheels, Bride seats, , air cleaners, bodykits, etc. for this model. Please see for more details.
Interior: There are no faults to report with the interior except for a defunct CD changer controller (Previous owner removed the CD changer). Standard audio with CD plater, etc. is included. Please note that the audio is untested and therefore comes free of charge with the car.
Auction Grade 4 (Auction sheet is available). This MR2's clearly been outstandingly well cherished. Looking carefully around the car we noticed only the following tiny faults: There's a small pin dent on the nearside quarter panel. On the boot lid there's a very light scratch. On the o/s/r arch there's a small touch up paint mark. On the bonnet there are a few lvery small stone chips. - these faults are hard to spot really too small to repair, but are mentioned for the sake of giving a complete report. Test Drive: Signs show of this MR2 having been regularly serviced. Oil is relatively new - clearly this car wasn't driven hard - judging by the fact the brake discs still look lightly worn and the car's bodywork in such amazing condition. It would appear this car spent most of it's driven life on Motorways cruising at legal speeds in Japan.
We test drove this car and found it to be very healthy = giving good strong power throughout the rev range. Driving out of our yard, which is quite bumpy, we noted that there were no rattles and squeaks to be heard, although the ride was quite hard (So we're changing the springs for sports progressive items not quite as stiff a bit taller for the sake of preserving the front lip - current springs will be supplied with the car also, FOC). When driving on the open road, the car felt tight and unused. Brakes pulled the car up well with no signs of warpage, as is often common on older cars. Clutch has plenty of bite remaining. Felt very smooth. Handles great too!
Spec. like this is very sought after, so an example such as this is not expected to depreciate significantly. Being the most recent shape that's currently importable into the UK - Rev 4 models are what MR2 enthusiasts would most like. Note also, being a 1997 model, this car qualifies for the lower priced road tax scheme.
