DESCRIPTION
Giorgetto Giugiaro originally designed the Delta as a road car in 1979, but after the introduction of an advanced 4WD system with three differentials, and a 1995cc twin-cam turbo-charged engine in May 1986, it would become the most successful rally car ever. In total, the four evolutions of the Lancia Delta won 46 World Championship rallies, and Lancia’s run of six consecutive manufacturers’ titles remains a record.
The final version known as the HF integrale Evoluzione appeared in 1991 with power up to 210bhp, strengthened suspension, wider track at the front and rear, new four pot fixed calliper front brakes with ABS and wider wheels with improved cooling, all meaning even larger wheel arch extensions were necessary, and more air intakes on the bonnet were needed to improve engine cooling. The integrale was built in small numbers and with phenomenal handling characteristics it ranks high on most enthusiasts’ wish lists. "Even by modern standards, it doesn't seem to matter how extreme you get with a 'Grale Evo, how ludicrous the liberties you take on the edge of adhesion, it always seems to have a few tricks in reserve that will pull you through. Driving one is an education. Accelerate hard on the turn and it finds acceleration where lesser cars find wheelspin or a close encounter with the hedge on the other side of the road. There may be faster cars in a straight line, ones that can pull more lateral g on smooth, dry tarmac. But very few dispatch real roads and uncertain conditions with such confidence. The harder you drive the Lancia, the better it gets." EVO Magazine '07.This particular example is unique for many reasons - all good ones:Originally supplied new registered for the Japanese in March 1992, it has never, ever seen salt such that it still runs it's original corrosion free exhaust and the entire underside remains almost as clean as the day it rolled off the Integrale Evolution production line.Originally specified with original option full leather interior with alcantara roof as well as air conditioning. Now most Lancia Deltas have pretty shoddy interiors, but this example has been especially well protected since new. Since the beginning the plastic carpet protective layer has never been removed, so this means the carpets have remained like new throughout the car's life. Not only this, but it's clear to us it's always been garaged too, hence the softness of the leather and lack of ageing to the exterior trim, etc.In addition the car has been treated to the best mechanical care attention available in Tokyo, courtesy of Garage Italia - who are well known for looking after Delta Integrales. This specialist was the registered keeper for many years before we had the chance to buy this unique Integrale Evolution. There are over £35,000 worth (Or equivalent in JP Yen) of detailed receipts with everything from replacement of fluids at very regular intervals, through to chassis maintenance improvements.
The result of such careful ownership is the best Delta Integrale Evolution we had ever come across in Japan. So much so, that we bought this car for stock, with a view to offering it for sale in the UK. Original specification includes: 1995cc DOHC 16V engine with Garrett T3 intercooled turbo producing 210 bhp and capable of 0-60 in just 5.7 seconds. Independent, MacPherson strut, lower wishbones, coil springs, telescopic dampers, anti-roll bar at the front Independent double transverse arms, coil springs, telescopic dampers, anti-roll bar at the rear. Wheels are Speedline Magnesium alloy of size 7J x 15" AH2-37 front and rear, shod with 205/50R15 Michelin sports tyres.
Uprated specification: Evo II headlight set, Rally style (Vertical) rear spoiler mounts, Carbon fibre front bumper mounted brake cooling ducts, ExtraDouble capacity aluminium radiator with twin electric fans uprated radiator cap, Samco coolant hoses, braided fuel lines, Bilstein shock absorbers. Condition report: Pictures will show the outstanding condition of this unique Integrale Evolution and there is a thick pile of invoices showing the vast amount of care this car's been lavished with. The body has clearly been carefully looked after since new such that there are no pin dents or signs of neglect on the panels. On the rear o/s quarter panel there is one small scratch. Also there's a light line dent on the o/s/r door. These are the only imperfections we could find after carefully inspecting all panels are now being repaired as part of our full preparation in UK. In addition, the three small stickers shown in pictures emblems that attach to each of the front wings have each been replaced with brand new items. The original Magnesium alloy wheels each have no corrosion at all, but did have minor scratches on their edges so these have now been refurbished too, so presentation is 100% perfect. Interior is having the plastic carpet covering removed and will shortly receive new tailored floor mats that are more tastefully coloured than the ones pictured.
