The DC2 Type R is considered by the Japanese as the best Integra Type R made, even better than it's replacement, the DC5 Type R. With double wishbone suspension at each corner and excellent balance, combined with a race car like 1.8 V-Tec engine producing 200 bhp, this is a seriously capable driver's car! Note that Honda make the currect DC5 ITR without double wishbone suspension. A cost cutting exercise... To tuners in Japan, the DC2 98 Spec is still the best ever made. This is a 98 Spec Type D as stamped on a plaque located on the centre console and inside the passenger door shut. Type D denotes rare black interior trim. It’s a 1998 model of March registration. It’s of 1998 + Spec. and so in addition to a quicker steering rack and suspension differences only fitted to JDM models, also carries the following factory modifications introduced in 1998:
To provide an increase in power to 200 bhp and also higher torque at low and mid rpm levels the exhaust manifold was re-designed. Suspension and brakes were improved to maximize driving performance and handling. Furthermore, the Integra type R 98 Spec adopted 15-inch front disk brakes 14-inch rear disk brakes combined with Enkei forged alloy 16" alloy wheels. An ABS 4 channel system is fitted. An SRS airbag-compatible steering wheel was designed by MOMO and High intensity Discharge (HID) headlights with over twice the brightness of halogen lamps were introduced. Front and rear bumpers were also re-designed to help modernise the look further. Glass was also changed from being of brown tint, to a light blue tint instead. As standard, the engine is making 200 bhp at 7,600 rpm with a V-Tec Zone that sounds goes much like that of a racing engine from 5,800 - 8,500 rpm, it's not hard to see why this car won so many admirers in Japan. 98+ Spec Factory fitted equipment includes: Limited slip differential, Dual SRS airbags with Momo designed leather steering wheel, Climate control air conditioning, PAS, electric windows, original "Type R" fitted mats, remote controlled door mirrors, full alcantara black Recaro seats, HID headlights with front fog lights integrated into the light clusters, front, rear and underside braces, alloy Type R gear knob and pedals, large diameter discs. Note that tyres are nearly new Dunlop Direza DZ 101's of size 215/45/R16. Performance Parts: The exhaust is a stainless steel Apexi Cat back system, with a removable baffle (Fitted currently). To improve handling, high quality Cusco Comp S fully adjustable coilovers have been fitted. These give a firmer ride with much less body roll and are set for road use to give a supple yet comfortable ride. In the engine bay, Ultra uprated ignition leads have been fitted. These complete the basic modifications on this car. Audio consists of a Kenwood (Garthers / Honda) CD/MD/Radio 200W system. Note Audio is supplied free of charge with this car.
Interior is in excellent condition. This has been a non smoker's car. There is a light mark left on the dashboard from where a TV screen has previously been fitted. On the passenger door, the plastic trim has come unstuck lightly. It's hardly noticable, but as we saw it, we mention it to give a full and accurate report. The glovebox has a crack in it and needs replacing. We will source this to go together with the car. Also, around the cigar lighter and on the deep edge of the centre console, there are some scratches to the plastic. These are minor faults but can be replaced inexpensively if desired. In the boot area, there are some scratches to the plastics and the (optional) rear parcel shelf has some screw holes, where parcel speakers have previously been fitted. The auction grade of this example is 3.5b This example is in excellent condition and has now had all minor paintwork faults shown in pictures all repaired. It's in perfect condition.
Brake discs are also hardly worn, which also serves to indicate this car's not been driven hard regularly. Oil change has recently also been completed and the timing belt was changed at 62,873km on 1st April 2006.
Test Drive: We tested this DC2 for around 3 km after warming it up. There are no mechanical faults to report with performance. Clutch is fine, with no warping from the brakes. Performance feels strong especially in the V-Tec zone! Even with standard tune except for the cat back exhaust, performance is strong from the 200 bhp this car's making. An intoxicating drive!
