The Subaru Legacy GT-B Twin Turbo BH5 Sport Wagon was introduced for the Japan market only at the end of 1998. As usual, the Japanese kept the best for themselves, with the UK, Europe, etc only getting normally aspirated Legacy Estate models! This example is the very first GT-B E-tune (280 bhp) we've been able to source a stunning example at that.
This GT-B is an extensively equipped robust spaceous family car offering legendary Subaru twin-turbo performance. This particular example is extremely rare being equipped with a 5 speed manual gearbox and impressive additional specification. As a complete package the Legacy GT-B Twin Turbo is unbeatable for performance, value and versatility.
We find these cars are finding welcoming homes with business people who need to carry loads for their work, or owners wanting space to carry hobby goods on weekends - whilst desiring a car that is capable of covering ground quickly, be fun to hussle on twisty country roads and able to operate in all weather conditions. These Subarus are also capable of covering high mileages reliably, so they're a good choice for many. A better and more reliable choice than most performance 4WD estate car European counterparts.
Mechanical Specification includes: 2 litre 16 valve boxer 4 cylinder EJ20 engine with intercooled sequential twin-turbos making 280 bhp as standard, 5 speed manual gearbox mated to permanent 4 wheel drive, with powerful 4 wheel disc brakes and factory fitted Bilstein gas suspension. These combined help to offer a refined yet sporty ride with class leading load capacity. 0-60 in 5.8 seconds with ability to return 30 mpg when driven normally. Naturally there's ABS as standard too. Considering the capacity of swallowing an entire family of 5, their luggage and the dog with ability to cruise at high speed to say a Ski resort, it only weighs 1,520kg unlaiden, just 90kg more than a 4 door Impreza Sti (GDB Version)! Performance Improvements: Exhaust is a Legalis Super R (Cat back). Wheels are RAYS Versus 7 spokes with Dunlop Le Mans sports tyres of size: 215/40R17. Locking wheel nuts are also included (With ky). STi suspension springs are combined with Bilstein's venerable shock absorbers to give a lower and better controlled ride. At the front there's an original STi option front strut brace. An earthing kit helps improve spark plug efficiency. A Zero Sports radiator cooling panel's also included. Inside, there's an original option STi Genome boost gauge (Defi) and Blitz turbo timer. Note also the 4 piston Subaru front calipers fitted.Cosmetic Improvements: Aside from RAYS Versus 17" wheels mentioned above, this car's equipped with a rare original factory option bodykit consisting of front splitter, side skirts and rear spats. Note that E-tune models carry (HID) uprated headlights and crystal type rear lenzes. This car also has integrated LED indicators in the (Remote controlled) door mirrors, clear side repeaters, colour coded rear cluster and tailgate trims, headlamp eyelines carbon look STi emblems (The Rabbit is a rare STi emblem - from the days Fuji Heavy Industries was an aircraft manufacturer). Note also the stainless steel cover plate on the rear bumper. At Newera we always seek out the best spec'd cars - so this example is the culmination of a long search for an E-Tune inclusive of the rare twin sunroof option combination.Interior Improvements include: Kenwood high quality hifi with CD/MD/Radio, 10 disc CD changer, Kenwood subwoofer, Sony X-Plod component amplifier and uprated speakers at each corner. There's a Japanese spec Sat nav system included too - please note this won't work in UK, although it may be possible to make the TV screen work with a DVD / Blue Ray player. All ICE is included free of charge and without warranty on this car. Note also STi original option pedal covers included.Interior Specification: Twin glass roofs, Half leather bucket type sports seats with alcantara inserts, electrically adjustable driver's seat, additional storage under boot area partition, original option boot liner carpet, split folding rear seats, rear luggage area cover, full set of fitted mats, Momo SRS leather trimmed steering wheel, SRS airbag for passenger, leather trimmed shift knob, climate controlled air conditioning, electric door mirrors with retract mode, full electric windows remote controlled central locking.Exterior: UV cut privacy glass for all rear windows (Factory fitted) with pilarless glass on all doors (Also note the black widows wrap all around the car, only the A pilars are visible), original option wind deflectors, HID (Main Beam) headlights, factory fitted driving lights, Aero roof rails, high level rear spoiler wiht integrated brake light, sports front grille, vented bonnet, rear wash wipe. Note the low centre design of the rear bumper for ease of loading. Test Drive: As with each car we source, this example was picked for it's high quality. It's clear from the general condition, this example's never been driven hard and has always been well looked after. As such it drives without fault and the engine is purrrfectly quiet, no rattles or other signs of wear. Using the first turbo, to bring on boost from low rpm this car feels potent right from the off, then at around 4,500 rpm there's a transition / increase in power as the second turbo is introduced and the exhaust valve opens. Strongest power thereafter all the way to the redline at 7,500 rpm makes for a very quick production car! We found absolutely no faults to report / needing repair.Condition: Auction grade is 4.0. Rear bumper has been scratched in places and repaired with touch up paint. The front lip spoiler's scratched on the corners, notably the O/S. We also noticed the o/s quarter has a small pin dent and there's one on the driver's door too. Bonnet has some small pin dents at the leading edge and 2-3 on the n/s/r door also. None of these are serious faults and only really visible when looking specifically for them but we feel the rear bumper and front splitter would look better repaired so will be repainted and all the pin dent repairs professionally repaired - and this work will be completed if the full UK preparation package is chosen. Interior is in excellent condition with no faults to report at all. See the ash tray which shows this has been a non-smoker's car since new. See photo of underside note the complete lack of corrosion oil leaks on the underside. Engine bay is also in excellent condition, with no rust on bolts, etc. Even the fins on the intercooler show virtually no flattening, further indicating this car's not been driven hard (Subaru intercooler fins will flatten if the car's driven at speed in rain, for example!). Note that being a 1999 (October) model, this car offers high performance motorin, with low level UK road tax costs for the future as rule changes come in. Please be aware: This is a hand picked example of much better quality than you may find elsewhere is the last example we currently have in stock. We are having difficulty finding good examples like this in Japan, so once it's gone - we expect finding other replacement Legacy GT-B Manual models could once again take months. Note in particular - this car's condition and very low original mileage - tally it up and it will make sense to have this than a similar example in poorer condition, Auto or worse - a car that's suffered a decade of UK winters. Without doubt - This GT-B is the best example in the UK available now.
