The EP82 Starlet GT Turbo is finally getting the recognition it deserves in the UK from magazines. Indeed J-Tuner observed that one of the quickest cars on the track at Jap Fest this year was a lightly modified EP82, beating all manner of Skylines, Evo's etc. on the track! This is a car that the Japanese have raced successfully in a national one make series. An etremely quick and sharp hot hatch handling is excellent and gives lift off oversteer to make hussling this cheeky lightweight a rewarding driving experience not to be missed! If you've seen these out on trackdays in the UK you'll know they're very capable pocket rockets! This example has been improved considerably both cosmetically and performance wise.
Performance Modifications: Apexi Dual funnel Induction kit has replaced the standard air box. A stainless steel rear exhaust section with removable baffle is fitted (Standard Catalyst is retained in the Turbo Elbow for Ease of MOT). Engine sound is also much improved with the 1.3 16V Twin Cam Turbo sounding powerful even at idle. This example is developing in the region of 160BHP with improved breathing and an uprated actuator - providing 1 bar of boost. The engine has much improved response and performance with the improved breathing generated by the removal of the standard, restrictive parts. Also installed is a Turbo Timer, this allows the turbo to cool properly before switching off the engine, thus cutting oil supply, prolonging turbocharger life. A Greddy boost gauge is fitted above the instrument panel, to allow close monitoring of the boost level. To make use of the increased driveability the suspension has been uprated with lowered sports progressive suspension springs. This car is suprisingly fast, and will undoubtabley shock many hot hatch drivers once rolling on UK tarmac!
Cosmetic Modifications: The factory wheels have been replaced with lightweight, forged, Enkei 15" alloy wheels with 195/50 R15 82V Dunlop Le Mans 701 sports tyres. The TOM's original front bumper has a deep agressive look that sets this example even further from the average hot hatch in the UK. Side skirts are also fitted and the front grille has had it's slats removed and mesh fitted instead. When combined with the reduced ride height and increased rim size, this Starlet Turbo looks truly menacing. The last owner seemed to particularly like kevlar, so the door mirrors and fuel filler cap have been replaced with carbon look items.
Interior: Inside, more carbon look panels adourn much of the cockpit. The A pilar trims, Centre console, glovebox, clock surround, window switch panels and interior door latch release handles are all modified to carbon look! There's an original Toyota 6 CD changer and hifi fitted - complete with a full array of uprated speakers. Hifi equipment is supplied free of charge with this car. Note that the steering wheel is also up graded.
Standard equipment includes: 5 speed manual transmission, Power Steering, Electic Windows with auto up/down on drivers window, Air Conditioning, Rear Wiper, Fitted mats, Remote Controlled Door Mirrors, Front Driving Lamps, Rear Spoiler etc.
This EP82 is the nicest we've found through regular searching in Japan's best auctions - which is of course why we bought this example for stock. We have never stocked one of these before, although not through lack of trying. They are usually simply too tatty to meet our exacting standards. When we saw this example, we just had to have it! Having covered only 53,429 Miles from New, this is a particularly low mileage example!
The auction grade is 3.5 (Auction Sheet is available). This confirms the outstanding condition of this facelift model Starlet turbo.. Condition is outstanding. The front bumper has a crack on the n/s corner and also stone chips. The o/s/f arch trim has some scratches and on the plastic door trims there ae some touch up paint marks visible. Also on the bonnet there are some stone chips as well as on the o/s/r corner of the roof. Each of these faults are to be repaired as part of our preparation for this car in UK, but mentioned here to give a full and accurate description.
Interior is in good condition, although a previous owner was a smoker - (Car doesn't smell of smoke) there is a 4mm diameter cigarette hole on the driver's seat (Picture available). On the dashboard near the driver's A-Pilar there are 2 small screw holes where an accessory has previously been fitted. The passenger's air vent is slightly broken, so this wil be replaced. Finally, the rear parcel shelf's speakers aren't connected.. These 3 faults will be professionally repaired as part of preparation for this car.
Over £3,000 (equivalent) has been spent in Japan by the last keeper in improving this Starlet Glanza V to the specification detailed above!
