Contact us for further details.This is a very rare Version R FTO 5 Speed manual, in pristine condition. The FTO is a unique car, with only 13,690 MIVEC examples made between 1994-2000. Official Mitsubishi figures show that only 350 GP Version R's were produced as facelift 1997-1999 models (- Only 30 Version R's were produced during this period before production of this model stopped at the beginning of 1999 and only a handful were built with the 5 speed manual transmission (Information - official figures obtained from Mitsubishi Japan).
FTO Japan market History: In 1995 the FTO won the prestigious Japanese Car of the Year award - the first time a sports car had done this since Toyota's MR2 ten years earlier in 1984. Despite being front wheel drive, the FTO handles very well, with excellent balance and poise. It's been compared to the DC2 Integra Type R, which is considered by many to be the no. 1 best handling FWD ever made, although the FTO is more refined and arguably prettier too! The Mivec engine is a 24 valve V6 with variable valve timing. There's good low down torque available, or the unmistakable howl this car makes at higher revs (Especially with a good uprated exhaust and induction kit!)Facelift models are of better spec. than pre 1997 models. However, due to there being no model report available for MIVEC models, from 2004 April till now, it's not been possible to import these to the UK. This example, being 10 years old in October of this year, is only the 4th facelift example we have sourced in over 3 years - and far better than most of the other FTO's we see even here in Japan. The normal FTO's here are sad tired examples which we wouldn't consider importing to UK.
Features: The Version R Aero Series - Facelift model is the rarest most sought after of all FTO models, for good reasons! This is the lightweight model which Mitsubishi built with reduced sound deadening, a lightweight air conditioning system, Limited slip differential, HID headlights, Signature high backed sports seats (In red or blue, depending on exterior colour), Momo 3 spoke SRS steering wheel, a unique rear spoiler and Version R detail emblems. Equipment also includes: Original option sports suspension kit, factory tinted glass with privacy glass for the rear, rare original option illuminated stainless steel sill covers, power windows, power steering, tilt adjustable steering column, remote controlled door mirrors, central locking, rear screen integrated radio aerial, adjustable wipers, fitted floor mats, facelift front bumper. Note also this example has the optional marker lights integrated in the bumper. Inside, there's also optional Mitsubishi centrally mounted clock and voltage gauges. The entire centre console is fitted with Rallyart original option carbon finished trim and the main gauge cluster has original alloy bezels around each gauge. This car also has original option rubber wind deflectors.Note original remote central locking on the single key. Performance other Improvements: A 5Zigen Pro Racer 304 Stainless cat back exhaust has replaced the original. Note the titanium exhaust tip - a feature of this exhaust. Needless to say, with the Mivec V6's already fruity engine sound this exhaust makes the car sound fantastic (Without being excessively loud). Wheels are RAYS Gram Lights 57S of size: 17 x 7.5 + 40. Inside there's a Bee-R power builder - which essentially cuts the ignition for short bursts at a user settable rev limit. This results in big flames from the exhaust - when wanted, in combination with what sounds like gunshots. Quite a party trick! - Note this can be switched off when not needed too. A Hornet alarm has been fitted and there's a 200W Sony CD/Radio head unit. Audio and alarm are supplied free of charge with this car. In total around £3,000 has been spent by the last owner in improving this car. For certain, it's the best FTO we've sourced in a very long time - and probably the last Version R 5 speed manual we're likely to come across, sadly! See www.neweraparts.com for more details.Test Drive: We drove this car thoroughly and found it drives beautifully - as it should for a low mileage example. It's got a very eager engine which pulls hard in the MIVEC zone, right up to the redline, with a gorgeous note from the 5 Zigen exhaust. The factory fitted LSD provides excellent traction, whilst the suspension allows you to really throw the car into corners with confidence! Gearbox is sweet – working perfectly of course, with a clutch that has plenty of wear left. Brakes are excellent drama free too. This drives like a near new car. Note that all tyres are close / on the legal limit. Rather than charging for supply fitment of replacements we'd recommend the new owner purchasing at the UK's best discounted prices from www.camskill.co.uk and having his choice of tyres fitted whilst the car's being prepared. Fitting and balancing will be included as part of full UK uction grade is 4 (Auction sheet is available upon request). Usually, most FTO's are in poor condition, nowadays - this is the most exceptional example we've come across for a long time! The last owner was a non smoker, although previous owner would appear to have smoked. Although visibly the interior's immaculate - if the driver's seat is pushed all the way back, the carpet underneath has 3 - 4 small burn marks. These are minor and not usually visible - but as we noticed them they're mentioned herewith to give a full report on condition. Prior to photographing, we carefully washed and inspected the bodywork. As pictures show, this car's immaculate - There's just one small pin dent on the o/s/r quarter - this is so small it's hard to find.There are a couple of small chips on the rear bumper which have been touched in. Also some very small scratches / chips on the front bumper and one of the wheels n/s/r has some minor kerb marks (Which the last owner touched in). These are faults too small to warrant the extra cost of repainting. We can supply a matching white (Colour code W83) touch up pen on request.We noticed the driver's side skirt has some touched in chips and the passenger skirt has stress fractures in the paint. We'll have these repainted as part of the full UK OTR package (If chosen). Just small attention to details - so when this car goes out, it'll look much like new.
