CR-X Coupe DOHC V-Tec - LSD. Rare Glass Roof!!!
The Honda CR-X Coupe is considered one of the best handling and quickest point to point front wheel drive cars ever made! This is the car with which Honda introduced independent double wishbone suspension at each corner, giving maximum tyre contact at all times. The 1.6i DOHC V-Tec model was introduced in 1990 and produced for just 2 years in this shape. Combined with a light weight of just 970kg, an ever willing engine making 162 bhp at 7,600 rpm with a V-Tec Zone that sounds goes much like that of a racing engine from 6,000 - 8,000 rpm, it's not hard to see why this car won so many admirers worldwide. Indeed, this is the car than encouraged Honda to produce Type R Civics and Integras from 1995 on. A classic with total pedigree - fast becoming collectable, if rust free.
Today, the CR-X 1.6i DOHC V-Tec is all too scarce in top condition. UK examples are often rusty MOT failures with filler and rippled panels, rusty A pilars, rusty rear arches, and many have been worn out through very high mileages. Even in Japan, where there's no corrosion in the warmer parts, most CR-X's have long since passed their best days and are fairly tired, or have been converted into low priced track weapons! If you have ever seen one of these being driven hard on a tight small circuit, you'll understand why they're popular for racing use and especially sought after by V-Tec enthusiasts.
This example is one of a handful of top quality examples we have been able to source for stock over the last 18 months. It's been beautifully kept and evidently garaged much of it's life, but is also completely original! It's completely rust free - even the original rear silencer and suspension components still have their original matt black paint with no rust! It looks as a CR-X would be expected to - if a quarter of it's age - This is therefore a very collectable example.
Being of Japanese Spec. - There's the usual Honda equipment too, including air conditioning, PAS, electric windows, original "CR-X" fitted mats, rear wiper, privacy rear glass, central locking, remote controlled door mirrors with retract mode, etc. Hifi is a decent quality Sony unit with CD/Radio. This is supplied free of charge with this car. This example is equipped with a rare and very desirable full glass roof, an option that was only offered in Japan during the 2 years the V-Tec EF8 was in production. It's fitted with a Spoon stainless steel 4 branch exhaust manifold, combined with a Spoon V-Tec controller, complete with a knob to control the V-Tec revs, neatly fitted as if factory original. The air filter is an HKS SPF kit. The wheels fitted are unmarked original Versus Cesto - perfectly suited to this style of car. Tyres are sports types of size 195/50R15.
Interior is in excellent condition. The driver's seat has the usual wear to the vertical PVC Leather bolster. Repair to look as new is possible through the services of a good upholstery specialist - we can arrange this if preparing the car for completion in UK. Note also the glovebox on the passenger side has a broken hinge. It holds fine when closed, but is loose when open. There's some wear to the driver's floor mat. Auction grade is R-A cosmetic grade for this car (Auction sheet available). It's had a minor and cosmetic front accident in the past and both wings were replaced with new. Panel gaps are perfect also. No structural repair was carried out. Also the headlights were replaced with new - a good thing, as these usually yellow with age anyway. The paint condition is very good. On the passenger door there's 2-3 pin dents on the upper part. On the lower part there is a rectangular section that has been repainted but match isn't perfect. There's some light pin dents on the front n/s wing too. Driver's door has some paint chips to the edges. Door mirrors have minor scratches. Rear bumper has a minor ding near the centre, where the rubbing strip is. Also, the front lip spoiler and rubbing strip have some minor scratches. Please see pictures on the slide show. All are small faults but described for the purpose of supplying a complete report of the car. Each of these faults we will repair repaint to high quality - if the option of full preparation in the UK is chosen. Note also we'll include an oil filter change as part of UK preparation, since this was last done approx 2,000 miles ago.
We test drove this CR-X V-Tec and found it drove absolutely faultlessly. Brakes work well, with no signs of warping, handling's tight and there's an awesome indiction roar and an intoxicating push in the back as the V-Tec zone is breached from 5,800 rpm, helped by the 4 branch Spoon manifold and HKS SPF induction kit. Handling is superb. There are no rattles or signs of abuse at all.
As you can probably tell from our enthusiasm - we really rate these! (We owned a Mugen tuned example from 1999-2000 ourselves, so we already know how awesome these are) It's perhaps too good to be used as a car for daily use - as it's so well preserved, but at this price it'll provide an excellent commuting car, or even an excellent base with which to make a top CR-X example for fun / Trackday use!
