DESCRIPTION
This is a very, very rare car, which built by Mazda with only 500 produced in order to homologate this model for international WRC rally entry for 1994. This model is equipped with Viscous LSD, producing 210BHP as standard. In a car this nimble and light it makes for a very capable car given its strong power and limited-slip 4WD system. Drive Bias is 47% to the front and 53% to the rear - which gives this car a better handling bias than Pulsar GTI-R's. The drive train is known to be very strong on these as are the engines, as they're also built to withstand competition use. This example is still near standard, although it benefits from a Blitz Dual solenoid boost controller and an HKS PFC induction kit. These give the car excellent levels of performance. We estimate it's making around 280 bhp in current spec.
We stocked out first example of these in November 2004. As it attracted strong interest, we looked for another. It's taken us over 6 months to find an example to our high standard - to be able to offer as stock!! As these are very rare cars, they're a car that rarely appears for sale in Japan - and when they do, they're often in poor condition, abused or ex-amateur rally cars, or track cars with no interiors, etc. This example is the very best we've ever come across. A collector's car, for the knowledgeable enthusiast who wants something different, affordable and depreciation proof. Also, being so rare, this car can be registered as a Mazda 323 Turbo, which costs less to insure than the equivalent (And less capable GTI-R Pulsars).
This 323 GT-R is well equipped with: Power steering, Electric windows (Auto operation on Drivers side), Electric mirrors with retract mode, Electically operated glass sunroof, Half Leather - Half perforated Suede (Unmarked - Note it looks and feels like the same material as used for GT-R seats), Climate control Air Conditioning, Anti-Lock braking system, Original front strut brace, Cusco rear brace, integrated driving lamps, Enkei Racing Forged lightweight 16" white enamelled alloy wheels (size is 205/70R16), fill original fitted mats, original hifi, factory tinted windows, rear wiper. Note that the rear trim between the lights houses an original foglight - so this car doesn't need an additional item fitted.
The car is so clean inside there is not even a hint of wear to the drivers seat (as pictures will show)! The original steering wheel has been removed and has been replaced by a Momo leather item, much nicer in both feel and looks than the standard item. A Razo sperical alloy gearknob has replaced the original. Other non-standard items to the interior are the addition of a Blitz Boost controller, an Apexi boost controller and a turbo timer.
Auction grade is 4 (Original Auction Sheet is available). The exterior is immaculate. There is not even the usual peppering of stone chips, or fading of colour on roof and bonnet as associated with a Japanese car of this age. All panels are also very straight and unmarked. There are some light cracks to the paint on the corners of the front bumper and some small scraches to the o/s bumper lower corner. Also, there is a small pin dent on the driver's door. On the rear bumper there's some light scratches on the n/s corner. On the boot lid there's a small touch up mark. Finally, the n/s rear light has some condensation in, as does the front n/s driving light. Each of these faults will be repaired professionally as part of UK preparation, to supply this car in perfect condition throughout.
Although the original A-pilar radio aerial is fitted, on the boot there's a more modern rubber type antenna secured by double sided tape. Note that some of the stickers are worn away - we can source new ones from Mazda if required, although it may be more fun to keep the car anonymous and use this as a stealth machine with which to embarras so called hot hatches of the UK!
The original tyres although still legal, are fairly old and around 2/3rds worn, so to maximise enjoyment of this rally fugitive, we recommend replacing these with tyres of the owner's choice whilst this car's being prepared by ourselves. There are some light scratches to the rear n/s wheel edge, but these are not large enough to be easily noticable - or cause for concern. Locking wheelnuts are also fitted complete with a key concealed inside the car.
We have test driven this car thoroughly and are pleased to say it not only handles extremely well with minimal body roll, but drives much like a new car. There are no worn synchros, no noisy wheel bearings, nothing at all to report! The brake discs are virtually unworn! It would appear to us this car was owned by a small and mature driver - who used it for long distance cruising on Motorways only. From experience, we can tell - this car's never been used hard. It feels very tight indeed, without even a rattle from the interior. With the boost controller fitted, it's a lot faster than the last one we supplied, making approx 70 bhp more than standard. We also noted that the rear suspension is adjustable for toe settings, so oversteer or understeer can be dialed in as preferred.
This only the second Familia (323) GTR we have ever stocked. In Japan these cars are usually very tired and untidy. When we saw this example we just had to have it! It will be one of just a handful of 323 GT-R's in the UK shortly (See www.323gtx.co.uk for info on the 323 Driver's club!).
Due to this car being over ten years old it will not require an SVA test upon arrival to the UK. Therefore we suggest that to make this car as affordable as possible, we provide the car unprepared. This means that all the owner would need to do is to MOT then register the vehicle, plus carry out the paintwork as described, if preferred.
