This RX-7 has been fitted with RE Amemiya Ad Facer II front bumper with matching driving lights and additional spoiler extensions to each side. RE Amemiya Vented Bonnet, side skirts and rear flares are combined with a 1999 style Mazdaspeed rear wing. Wheels are original option RZ spec Forged BBS cross spoke items of 17" size, with 4 high performance Bridgeston Potenza RE711 tyres of size 235/45/ZR17 255/40/ZR17. They're in nearly new condition - even the alloy rims are still not oxidised from age. Suspension is original RZ Spec Bilsteing gas damgers with lowered springs. Hard setting, yet still comfortable for road use. RZ spec also includes larger diameter brake discs and calliper carriers on each corner for improved braking performance - over what was originally and lesser spec. the best stopping distance sports car in the world when first introduced in 1992.
A large bore stainless steel "Dunk Megaphone" exhaust is fitted from the catalyst - back. Aside from a Mazdaspeed rotor shaped oil filler cap, the engine is of completely original specification, as is the ECU itself. This means the car is able to be insured as an example with few modifications aside from the bodykit itself and perhaps the exhaust - which should keep premiums lower for a younger owner in the UK, whilst still giving excellent performance and daily use viability.
Original equipment includes: Alloy 'RX-7' sill step plates, twin oil coolers (best for keeping oil within the safe operating temperature), original option Alcantara suede seats, rear storage compartments in place of seats, PAS, E/W, E/M, A/C, 3 channel ABS, original fitted mats. The original tool kit is complete and unused and includes the optional additional tool tray. Also fitted is the factory rear strut brace. A factory option rear parcel shelf is also fitted.
The steering wheel has been replaced with a red Momo item, although the original steering wheel is with the car also. Hifi is a CD / Cassette / Radio 2 x 1 DIN size. From wires leading to the rear of the car - there used to be a small sub woofer in the boot too, but this was removed before sale by the previous owner. A Hornet alarm with remote central locking is also fitted.
We test drove this RX-7 thoroughly for handling, engine testing and braking, and found it drives absolutely faultlessly. Engine and a complete mechanical integrity check was carried out. There are no faults at all to report and the car feels tight and rattle free. With a car of such low weight, standard power is plenty with 0-60 in 5 seconds and a top speed of 160 mph. Handling is also amongst the very best available, with double wishbone alloy suspension.This RX-7 twin turbo pulls smoothly and strongly - with good idle, etc. It drives much like a new car and performance is excellent, once again reminding us of how good these cars are, even without major modification. No smoke on start up and it idles well, giving an excellent spread of power throughout the rev range, with strong power from around 2,500 rpm all the way to the red line. In total we had the engine on this car running for around an hour's testing.
The interior is in completely original condition with no faults to report. There is a little wear to the driver's seat upper section, indicating this was probably a car owned by a larger driver whose back rubbed on the fabric each time he got in and out. All other signs confirm this is a low genuine mileage car with no wear to switch stalks, carpets, gear knob, switches, etc. As there is no cigar lighter (Blanking plug is fitted instead there is a cubby box with useful elbow rest) this has been a non-smoker's car since new. Auction grade is 4. Exterior is in superb condition throughout. As with all the cars we stock, to check it thoroughly we washed and checked the bodywork on this car. There is a minor paint crack on the front bumper. The paint on the rear spoiler blade and the rear bumper has lost it's shine - as the laquer is not of original quality. There is a small blemish on the bonnet from acidic etching from bird droppings. Also 2 very similar tiny marks on the driver's door, vertical section. On the roof there are 2-3 touch up paint marks from stone chips. The o/s quarter has been painted at some point and this has left a blending mark on the roof. Finally there is just one pin dent on the entire car - located on the rear n/s quarter. Each of these faults is only minor- and would probably not be mentioned by other importers, but in our quest for excellence, we will repair these as part of preparation of this car in the UK.
It's rare to find an original genuine RZ model RX-7 with such low genuine mileage, as well as a stunning looking bodykit. This car presents itself as a jaw dropping combination! Clearly this car has been owned by a fastidiously fussy Japanese person. It's evident it's been well looked after with a lot of time spent selecting the parts to improve it. Total cost of exhaust aero parts in Japan totals approx. £2,500 - excluding fitting and setting.
The main points about this car are of course it's genuine low mileage, cosmetic improvements and the minor performance enhancements. As this is not an extremely tuned example, it can be used for daily driving is also affordable to insure by younger drivers wanting a special looking Rex!
RX-7's in as beautiful condition as this combined at an affordable price are extremely hard to find, even in Japan. Oil shows signs of having been changed in the last 1,500 miles as it's still relatively clean. The engine is in fine health with high oil pressure, healthy turbos and perfect starting every time.
