RX-7's are nowadays very rarely seen even on Japanese roads and are increasingly more difficult to source in well preserved condition such as this. Naturally, being one of the most beautiful designs of Japanese sports cars to ever have been made these have already become sought after & collectable in Japan. With 1990's iconic sports cars continuing to rocket in value - as the only Twin-Turbocharged rotary engined sports car from Japan from that era, it stands to reason these will continue to become increasingly collectable in Europe and elsewhere too.
This RX-7 Type R Bathurst was sourced to order for a customer. Usually cars such as these are expected take a long time to locate, but this one came up a lot faster than we'd expected, so when it did - we made sure we promptly secured it - before it went to another dealer. With most examples in Japan nowadays being tired and in need of major expense to put completely right, we hadn't wanted to compromise. This example also came with a comprehensive dealer service history, which shows the owner's commitment to keeping his car running well. This is an especially good sign with RX-7's in particular, albeit rarely found on cars of this age.
Being near standard, the condition of this car shows evidence of indoor storage and the lack of stone chips, scratches to bumpers, etc. indicate to us that the owner of this car was of more mature age.
Comparing closely with others on offer elsewhere, you can see why this car offers much better value for money than typically abused and pooly cared for RX-7's. It's essentially in concours condition and likely to be one of the very best in Europe when imported.
An FD3S RX-7 as standard has excellent junior supercar performance & doesn't require major tuning. Better for road use is to have a non-tempermental car which will give 10's of thousands of miles of delight for the owner.
Interior: Being an R Bathurst model there are alcantara front seats and small rear seats which make excellent rattle free storage spaces. original equipment includes: PAS, P/W, AC, ABS, dual oil coolers, front strut brace, unused original tool kit & spare, original dealer option fitted floor mats , sports alcantara seats, Momo leather steering wheel. An Addzest 2 Din 200W CD/Radio/Cassette unit is also installed.
Test Drive: Oil pressure good, regularly serviced and well maintained with a recent oil change this car runs very sweetly - just as an RX-7 is meant to. We test drove it briefly and found it drives very well indeed. Engine has good compression, starts instantly and drives without fault, pulling strongly all the way from idle. Clutch has plenty of wear left in it and suspension is plush. Brakes are strong and smooth in operation - We noted the discs have virtually no wear. Oil has recently been changed.
This RX-7 belonged to a mature owner (since new) who liked to have a nice performance car but hardly used it, by the looks of it. With so few stone chips and paint in superb condition throughout the car, it's evident this car was always well cared for and not driven hard. Note there is extensive documentation that will come with this car which proves the care it's been given by Mazda, Japan.
Condition is outstanding. There's no scratches at all on any of the paintwork, not even on the bumper corners, which is unusual for a car of this age. There are 2 very small pin dents on the passenger door & another 2 small ones on the driver's rear quarter (See pictures). These are small but will be pushed out by a dent removal specialist whilst the car is undergoing final preparation in UK. Also the front splitter has some scratches on the o/s corner. The front splitter can be replaced easily enough - and is inexpensive if a new one is desired (We anticipate the new owner will probably want to fit a 1999 styling conversion - more below). Being made of PVC it's designed to withstand minor abrasions and bumps. The Mazdaspeed exhaust has a small dent and scratching to the underside, but this is only visible when underneath the car.
Further Upgrades. Although nothing further is needed for this car, we're also specialists in the supply of performance parts for RX-7's and know these cars very well, owning 2 ourselves, so here are a few suggestions: A popular upgrade for these is a 1999 body conversion consisting of original rear spoiler & front bumper + inner support & combination light set, which will make the car identical to the last generations externally and mechanically too. With this we can fit either an original PVC front lip spoiler with the 1999 front bumper, or any choice of after-market front lips. We can also supply FEED carbon side skirts and if desired, even an RE-Amemiya rear diffuser. We recommend the RE-Amemiya carbon front lip spoiler, which looks great! Would also recommend oil cooler ducts to maximize efficiency. We can also supply a complete 1999+ badge set. All options are possible, based on a customer's desires and parts can be professionally painted & fitted before shipping, which saves on shipping costs too. Our contracted bodyshop offers excellent workmanship at attractive prices too. For more details please ask us for suggestions or visit: www.neweraparts.com
